About Multi

The Lighting business of the group was founded by Mr. Moti Malkani and his partners in the early 1970s in Mumbai to cater to requirements of several large OEM brands in India viz Bajaj, Crompton Greaves, Genelec, Mysore Lamps etc.

In the late 1970s, the business was relocated to Daman (located in Gujarat, India) as Multi Lighting Controls Pvt Ltd under the leadership of its chairman Mr. Moti Malkani and Managing Director Mr. Gautam Malkani.

In 2010 Multi entered into a Joint Venture with Fulham Inc. USA a global manufacturer, and supplier of high-quality electronic ballasts, LED Drivers, Light Engines, and several other products. The Joint Venture under the name of Fulham India Pvt Ltd set up a state of the art manufacturing facility in Pune, India in 2011 to manufacture electronic control gears and light engines for the global market.

Company History

 

  • 1970s

    The foundations of the business were established in Mumbai through the manufacture and supply of conventional lighting products, laying the groundwork for future expansion.

  • 1998

    Established a modern manufacturing facility in Daman, relocating operations from Mumbai

  • 1999

    Awarded ISO 9001 certification by TÜV Nord.

  • 2000

    Established an in-house sheet metal fabrication facility to support luminaire manufacturing.

  • 2002

    Expanded into the commercial lighting segment with the launch of workspace luminaires.

  • 2004

    Initiated exports of luminaires to the United Kingdom and Middle East markets.

  • 2006

    Established Foretech India in Pune for the manufacture of electronic ballasts.

  • 2007

    Established a luminaire assembly facility in Sharjah to serve the Middle East market. The operations were subsequently consolidated back into India in 2010 to improve logistics efficiency and optimize manufacturing costs.

  • 2008

    Established a Luminaire Assembly factory in Sharjah to cater to the Middle East requirements.

  • 2010

    Established a Joint Venture with Fulham Inc., USA, to manufacture electronic control gear and LED light engines in India. The existing electronic ballast business of Foretech India was merged into the new venture, expanding its technology, manufacturing and market capabilities.

  • 2012

    Commenced manufacturing of LED luminaires for indoor applications.

  • 2014

    Expanded the LED portfolio with outdoor lighting solutions, including streetlights and floodlights.

  • 2015

    Doubled manufacturing capacity at the Daman facility to support growing demand.

  • 2017

    Expanded exports of LED luminaires across European markets.

  • 2018

    Began exports of luminaires, lighting automation hardware and control components to Europe.

  • 2019

    Strengthened global market reach by commencing exports to the United States through strategic alliances with leading global Luminare manufacturing companies.

  • 2020

    To support the growing United States business, operations were expanded through the establishment of AM Lighting Pvt. Ltd. in Pune. The facility was developed in collaboration with strategic luminaire design, manufacturing and sourcing partners, creating a dedicated platform for serving the North American market.

  • 2022

    Completed the strategic sale of its stake in the Fulham India joint venture, marking an important milestone in the continued evolution of the Group's lighting business.

  • 2023

    Launched MEZA Art LLP, a decorative and artistic lighting brand dedicated to design-led lighting solutions for contemporary spaces. (www.meza.co.in)

  • 2024

    Introduced THNK, a technical lighting brand in association with THNK USA, offering advanced architectural, commercial and outdoor lighting solutions manufactured in India. (www.thnklights.com)

  • 2025

    Transformed the Mumbai headquarters into a design studio and experience centre, showcasing MEZA’s decorative lighting collection while serving as the company's corporate office.
